Yarrie Road Grading & Maintenance

Project Detail

Jakarli Group Services was engaged to provide periodic grading and maintenance of mine access and public roads within the Goldsworthy Northern Area (GNA), covering the Yarrie, Cunderline, Cattle Gorge, Nimingarra, Lower and Upper Shay Gap Road networks, and Pardoo Road. The programme was designed to maintain safe, trafficable road conditions for both mine operations and the travelling public across the remote Pilbara.

Works included road surface grading and smoothing, reinstatement of road camber, cleaning and forming of V-drains, and ongoing management of road conditions across a large road network. A CAT motor grader was deployed on a 2/1 roster with 12-hour day shifts, operating across both BHP-controlled mine access roads and live public roads under a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) approved by Main Roads WA.

Journey Management Plans were mandatory for all travel between Port Hedland and the mine site and on arrival. As a lone worker operating across a vast and isolated road network, robust fatigue management in accordance with mine standards was embedded into daily operations, supported by satellite communications and IVFMS tracking in all vehicles.
The periodic grading programme was delivered successfully across all nominated road networks with zero safety incidents throughout the contract.
